So, I taught myself to crochet this year.
I only taught myself to knit last year but I’m nothing if not flighty, the year before I sewed and the one before that I was very much a cross stitcher but this year it’s crochet.
Now in the book I taught my self from had lots of very lovely starter projects however everything I saw that I like kept saying this like experienced or occasionally intermediate so that’s where I started.
There was a hat, it was a quite plain hat but plain can easily be fixed with stripes.
Which sorted out my brother.
Then I used slightly more feminine colours but it was lacking something so after about ten attempts we got a flower.
So far so good.
A second one in reverse meant that brothers girlfriend and my Mum were now sorted, go me.
But then there were the children and I had seen a lovely pattern for an owl hat so I made a couple of them meaning that my good friend and her small person now had matching yellow owl hats, the drummer in my DH’s band’s children both had one and my slightly strange brother-in-law had one.
My sister-in-law came next with a stripy ear-flap hat with a massive bobble and finally…
The mother-in-laws hat. I had to learn fans, flowers and picot edging for this baby and it was unpicked at least three times but I think you’ll agree it looks fantastic.
Now I say finally but my dad wants a black and white striped hat and I have to work out how to make the owl hat into a penguin hat for my Aunt Lil but over all a reasonably successful foray into the world of the single hook.
Thanks to RepeatCrafterMe for the owl hat and Addydae designs for Perenni (the MIL’s hat)
